There are millions of families who are struggling to put food on the tables, gas in the car, or even pay monthly costs. Families that have children have the heaviest burden, as infants and toddlers are some of the poorest members of the American society. Child-related costs have been going up throughout the years, and it has been extremely difficult for young parents. People are wanting to fix this issue, since studies show that children who grow up poor or in poverty, are most likely going to drop out of school when they are older. They are also known to experience health problems , become involved in a criminal justice system, or live the rest of there life in poverty. The amount of child poverty in the United States costs the economy $672 billion each year. However, there is the Child Tax Credit, as well as the Earned Income tax Credit, which is helping with pulling children out of poverty.

Last year, over one million refugees went to Europe. A ruling by the highest appeals court showed mercy to an immigrant that was starving. The Supreme court stated that he just took the possession of a small amount of food, which was $4.70 worth of sausage and cheese, and he did it out of a need for nourishment. Therefore, he just did something that was required in order for him to live. The court made a statement that this is not considered a crime. Many Italians have endured high rates of poverty, as well as unemployment. Pope Francis even said that, "These people stand at the edges of our great avenues, in our streets, in deafening anonymity. They become part of an urban landscape which is more and more taken for granted, in out eyes, and especially in out hearts," (Pope Francis). The pope even invited many people who are living in poverty, to Rome. Overall, the Italian court spared the homeless shoplifter.
In the year of 1996, Clinton supported the welfare reform, during her husband's presidency. However, Sanders was against that, saying that the legislation had actually doubled the extreme poverty, which was creating more hardships for the Americans. In fact, Sanders even stated , “What welfare reform did, in my view, was to go after some of the weakest and most vulnerable people in this country". Sanders is trying to do whatever he can in order to lift millions of Americans who are in poverty, into middle class. Bernie proposed for a national health insurance as well as an increase in the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour. This can help to ensure that more Americans will be put to work , so that they are able to earn a living. His philosophy involves taxing the rich more heavily, so that more benefits are provided to others. This would help with eliminating expensive tuitions at public universities and colleges. Additionally, his campaign could employ 13 million people.
Many years have passed ever since President Lyndon B. Johnson declared an unconditional war on poverty. President Obama declared a new war on income inequality. However, this focus is misguided in a way. There are still around 47 million individuals who are living in poverty. Therefore, the first war on poverty is not yet close to being over. The author states that earned income tax credit does a better job of lifting workers from poverty. For example, if the minimum price of labor is raised, the amount of labor that employers want to purchase, will decrease. Studies have shown that raising the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10 would cost thousands of jobs. However, this would help numerous workers get higher paychecks.
Research has showed that children are in the best condition when they re raised by two parents. Studies find that the children end up having a better developmental and life outcome. Numerous people have agreed that marriage is crucial in order for kids to properly move up. Moreover, marriage is crucial for preventing the risk of living in poverty. It allows for the children to progress and have companionship, as well as guidance from both parents, as they are growing older. There are people who are complaining that the government should not push people to get married. This has been an idea throughout many years. In fact, Bill Clinton promoted marriage and two-parent families, and George W. Bush offered a Healthy Marriage Institute. Moreover, Obama's administration has a policy that includes marriage promotion. In single- parent families, it has been discovered that the children tend to have a more risky behavior, drop out of school, and in some situations, end up in the criminal justice system. Many of the children also end up facing disadvantages, such as poverty.
George mentions how , "whether the capital ever does limit the productiveness of industry, and thus fix a maximum which wages cannot exceed, it is evident that it is not from any scarcity of capital that the poverty of the masses in civilized countries proceeds. Wages are what laborers get after all that they do, but depending on the capital there could be restrictions on laborers and their work. With all of the restrictions, they cannot get higher wages. There is a theory that wages depend on the ratio between the number of laborers and the amount of capital that is devoted to employment. The reason for that is because the author mentions that many people who hold the capital are the ones who employ labor and pay the wages.
The Democratic debt towards African Americans is large and not everything is paid up. Although there is no evidence of a political revolt, many poor African Americans are having a tough time. The percentage of children that are living in communities of high concentrated poverty, known as toxic social environments, can measure how well a demographic group is doing. Additionally, evidence is being gathered to show the depth of the damage put upon children living in the toxic social environments. Research shows that African Americans who make at least $100,00.00 a year live in disadvantaged neighborhoods, compared to whites making $30,00.00 and less, who do not. Many black kids are being put in danger while living in the impoverished neighborhoods as well. Unless the Democratic party makes better choices, many of the African Americans will end up abandoning the ballot box.
"More than 40 millionaires, including members of the Rockefeller and Disney families, are asking to have their taxes raised to help address poverty and rebuild failing infrastructure" (ABC, 2016). Writing a letter to the Democratic government, they addressed child poverty and and willing to raise their taxes. They stated that they already pay high
taxes, so they can pay even more to fix this issue. Not only are they wanting to focus on child poverty, but they addressed homelessness, water pipes, roads , and other problems.
